In Class 5A, there are plenty of wrestlers who have a shot at winning a state title. Carl Albert’s Grant Gober is certainly at the top of that list.
Coming into the season Gober was ranked No. 1 at 120-pounds by Owrestle.com and for good reason. As a freshman he was a state runner-up at 113-pounds. His sophomore campaign ended with him being crowned state champion at 120-pounds. We caught up with Gober to learn more about him and what pushes him to be great.
VYPE: Grant, what do you love most about your team and your teammates?
Gober: The thing I love most about the team at Carl Albert is that we are more of a family then a team. At Carl Albert we push through the adversaries together as a whole. We all support each other no matter what the outcome of a match.
VYPE: What is your favorite subject in school and who is your favorite teacher?
Gober: My favorite subject at school has to be math. I have enjoyed doing math since I was in elementary school. My favorite teacher at Carl Albert is Ms. Ray. She was my freshman geometry teacher. Ms. Ray has always been helpful, funny, and enthusiastic about teaching. I always looked forward to going to her class each day.
VYPE: Who has been a big influence in your life? Explain
Gober: My biggest influence in life is my older sister, Rachel Gober. Rachel has not just influenced me through having good work ethic in wrestling but has also influenced me in life. I strive to have her attitude, effort, knowledge, persistence, and commitment.
