Carl Albert High School senior Aliya “AJ” Bennett has spent her varsity fastpitch softball career making an impact wherever the Lady Titans need her. A versatile contributor at second base and catcher, Bennett enters the next chapter of her athletic career carrying championship experience, meaningful relationships and a commitment to continued growth.
Bennett said winning a state championship in fall 2025 stands among the proudest moments of her high school career.
“I’m most proud of winning state in the fall of 2025. It was such a special experience and something I’ll always remember. I’m also really proud of committing to play college softball at Oklahoma Christian. Both of these things mean a lot to me because I’ve worked really hard for them and they’re memories I’ll never forget.”
Her commitment to Oklahoma Christian gives Bennett an opportunity to continue playing the game she loves at the collegiate level. It also reflects the effort she has invested over the years, both on the field and in the work required to prepare for bigger opportunities.
Bennett credits her parents with helping establish that mindset.
“My parents inspire me because they have always shown me what hard work looks like. They work hard for our family and have taught me to stay committed and put in the effort to reach my goals. I really look up to them and hope to have the same work ethic as I get older.”
She has also learned valuable lessons from people throughout the Carl Albert program. Bennett said former teammate Ausha Moore made a lasting impact when Bennett was a freshman.
“Ausha Moore has probably left the biggest impression on me. She was my senior shortstop when I was a freshman playing second base, and she really took me under her wing. She was a great mentor, role model, and leader. She helped me learn a lot and showed me what it means to be a good teammate and leader.”
Those lessons extend beyond softball. In the classroom, Bennett said leadership teacher Grace Dozier has encouraged her to consider the impact she can make on others.
“Mrs. Grace Dozier is my favorite teacher. She is my current leadership teacher, and she is such an inspiring and uplifting person. She is always thinking about others and looking for ways to help people. She has already taught me a lot about leadership and being someone who makes a positive difference in other people’s lives.”
As Bennett prepares to move on from Carl Albert, she remains thankful for the coaches who helped shape her confidence, skills and approach to the game. Her senior season represents more than a final chapter with the Lady Titans; it is the foundation for what comes next at Oklahoma Christian.
