Carl Albert assistant coach spotlight – Tony Borum brings head coaching experience into Titans clubhouse – Presented by Mike Muecke- State Farm

Carl Albert High School head baseball coach Ryan Whiteley has in his clubhouse one of the state’s best assistant coaches.

Tony Borum recorded over 220 wins at Moore High School and Douglass High School as a
head coach.

“After achieving being a 4A, 5A and 6A coach,” Borum said, “my current goals are helping my players reach their dreams of winning a state title and furthering their ambitions of playing baseball at the next level.”

Borum primarily works with catchers, hitters and infield during practice, and he coaches first base during games. He’s the oldest coach on Carl Albert’s staff.

“It is important to me because I feel like I am instilling values and knowledge that I have gained over the years that other great coaches have instilled in me,” Borum said in reference to his accomplished career and seniority on the Titans staff. “My players over the years have taught me that baseball is more than a sport. Baseball has become about instilling values in the next generation and learning ways to teach the game.”

Borum was inspired by his father to coach. He also serves as an assistant football coach (he was an accomplished quarterback at Carl Albert in the early 80s) and teaches government and world history.

“Coaching is important because kids need fundamental skills to play the game,” Borum said.

“Those skills help the players learn life lessons that they will take with them into their next adventures.

In his free time, Borum attends his grandsons’ football, baseball and basketball games; working about the house; and attending antique shops and estate sales with his wife.
