Carter Reese doesn’t measure success in trophies or match victories. For the Carl Albert High School senior, the greatest accomplishment comes in how his teammates support each other.

As a varsity tennis doubles player for the Titans, Reese has emerged as a leader whose work ethic and attitude set the tone for the entire program. His dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed by his teammates, who look to him as an example both on and off the court.

“I don’t have a single greatest accomplishment, but on a regular basis I am very proud of how our team stands up for each other on the court,” Reese said. “It is something a lot of teams don’t have. No matter the situation or the outcome, we always do an amazing job of lifting up each other when someone is in need of a boost.”

That team-first mentality reflects lessons Reese has learned through years of competition. The mental demands of tennis have shaped his approach to challenges beyond the baseline.

“Tennis has taught me patience,” Reese said. “It is a vital skill to possess on the tennis court and in life.”

Reese credits his big sister with teaching him perhaps his most important lesson: authenticity.

“She has taught me how to be myself,” Reese said. “She has shown me the importance of not conforming to other’s standards. Set your own standards and be proud of who you are. Don’t let others tell you how you should be.”

His doubles partner, Kyle Sparks, has also left a lasting impact through his resilience during difficult times.

“He has redefined how to push through struggles when things get tough in life,” Reese said. “His strength encourages me to leave everything I have out on the court, in the classroom and in life.”

In the classroom, Reese finds similar inspiration from his AP Calculus teacher, Mrs. Romero, who pushes him through challenging assignments.

As he prepares to leave Carl Albert, Reese carries a simple philosophy: “Do your very best and leave the rest up to God.”
