Carl Albert’s Chandler Cordray

Being involved in cheerleading and playing volleyball has kept Carl Albert senior Chandler Cordray busy during the fall through her high school years. She had been in numerous roles in both sports.
“I have served to play multiple positions in volleyball throughout my years, but I’m playing as an outside hitter and DS more consistently this season,” Cordray said. “For cheer, I serve where I am needed.”
As a Christian, the Titan athlete is motivated by knowing who she is playing for and representing.
“I pray daily that I would represent Jesus in every action, every play, and every word that comes from my mouth. The Lord has so graciously given me this talent to glorify his almighty being. PSALM 84:10! This verse has really stuck with me this season, as it states, “A day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.” I also find motivation in playing for my family, my Papa Steve, my friends, and those who have shown up for me throughout my life.”
Outside of sports. Cordray is busy with other activities too. She is in FCA, HALO project teen board, Kanakuk discipleship, Youth worship band and leadership, Bethany Children’s volunteer, programs, Student Council, National Honor Society, Superintendent’s student advisory board for Mid-Del Schools, and is an Academic Letterman. So what does it take for her to balance school work and activities?
“Balancing everything takes a to-do list, a calendar, good food, and good sleep,” Cordray said. “I’ve had to learn, and I’m still learning, how to find rest in the busiest seasons. My calendar is my best friend.”
Athletics in general has taught Cordray a lot about her identity.
“The Lord found me in a spot where I was placing my performance over who He says I am and called to be,” she said. “In that moment, I was humbled. I was stripped of the one thing I thought I would always succeed in. That closed door forced me to become completely dependent on God’s Truth. I am a better person for picking up that cross, learning daily that the Lord is the one who truly knows my name, not a statistic, or the opinions of others, and especially not the enemy.”
The teammate who has left the biggest impression on Cordray is Emily Boyer, who is now playing at OB.
“She took me under her wing when she was a senior and I was a freshman,” Cordray said. “Not only was she so incredibly skilled, but she led by example, taught me strategies, and helped me when I was trying to figure out high school.”
She loves being a part of Carl Albert’s sports tradition.
“Representing Carl Albert is representing a school of excellence,” Cordray said. “CAHS has created its own reputation in academics and sports. I get to go to the same school my dad won a state championship at. I would have to say that’s my favorite part. He is now teaching, and my brother is a freshman, so I get to see my favorite people at school every day. Doing life together is my favorite. I want to give a shoutout to my mom and dad,” Cordray continued. “I am so blessed to have parents who show me perspective, listen, support my siblings and I, tell me when I’m wrong, and love me no matter what. I can always count on them to show up, and that’s not something I take for granted.”
