Carl Albert basketball player Hutch Russell gave an interview with VYPE.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year? My personal goals are to continue improve every aspect of my game along with working to be the best version of myself for my teammates so we can achieve what we want to achieve as a team.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory? My favorite athletic memory is definitely getting to win a state championship with my brother in baseball, my freshman year getting to play was pretty cool by itself but getting to win a state title with my big brother that was definitely my favorite athletic memory.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why? The Teammate that left the biggest impression on me was definitely Jordan England I got to hoop with him Sophomore and Junior year. The thing I admired most about Jordan was the way he led our team especially last year. He is a true leader and getting to see that and learn from that definitely left the biggest impact on me.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team? My favorite part of being on this team this year is we finally get to leave OUR mark this senior group Quincy, Ryan, Jayden, and myself have been playing together since we’ve been in fourth grade we finally get our chance to go leave our mark on this program. The greatest thing about being on this team is there is no pressure because the foundation has already been established from the people that have came before us now we get the chance to go out one last time and just go out have fun and play ball.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects? The community service projects I participate in come from leadership we do a lot of stuff within the community but the biggest one we do is SWAG week which stands for students with a goal where we find someone that is in need in our community and we raise money for them.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why? I also participate in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, STUCO, and I’m a baseball player.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life? My main sport is baseball so getting to play basketball in high school is a really fun experience because it allows me to compete in something different than baseball. Basketball has taught me a whole lot of life lessons but the main thing it has taught me is to how to become a great teammate. I might not be having a great night on the court but I can always be making my team better in keeping a positive attitude throughout the game. Or it might be the opposite I might be having a great night and another player might be having an awful night but it’s my job to pick that guy up and keep him positive so we can still be successful as a team.
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you? The best I’ve ever gotten is definitely “Just have fun”. I feel like we always are getting caught up in our successes and failures. I think the main thing is when you go play basketball is just to go have fun because it is fun to go compete with your brothers. No highs no lows just stay consistent every day and have fun playing basketball because at the end of the day it’s a game.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why? I’m inspired by my teammates every day the way they push me to become better every single day is what inspires me to come in the building and work my butt off for them.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish. I wanna give a huge shoutout first to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ without my faith I am nothing and I hope to also be bringing others closer to him everyday. I also want to give a huge shoutout to my family. I am very blessed with a great family that loves me and are my biggest supporters.
